The Protégé Edge
- This training program is specifically designed for dance students of the ATOD Systems of training, to encourage them to commence their levels of ATOD teaching qualifications.
- The course of study is designed to enhance effective leadership in students who display such qualities, while training them in the basics of dance teaching.
- It describes the skills and knowledge required to prepare for and assist with teaching dance classes.
- The training will be undertaken with the supervision of a senior teacher/mentor within the studio dance environment, who will be required to sign off on some activities.
- Candidates will have a study Guide/ Workbook to complete and upload to the ATOD portal.
- Candidates will undertake a practical teaching examination at their own studio with an ATOD Examiner.
- It is anticipated that this course will take at a minimum of twelve months to complete.
Entry age group and pre required qualification
- age group of 12-15 years.
- The minimum dance level of qualification is Gold Medal or equivalent ATOD level 5 in Contemporary, Hip Hop and Musical Theatre.
During and on completion of this training program
Training teachers at this level should be able to
- use basic safe dance teaching methods and strategies
- monitor the progress of participants and adjust in response to changing situations
- provide positive and constructive feedback to participants to encourage motivation, self-esteem and self-expression
- evaluate their own performance and identify opportunities to improve teaching skills.

What do candidates receive on successful completion?
- Competency and certification in CUADTM311 – Assist with dance teaching
- The Protégé Edge Certificate
- Statement of Attainment
- A discount on the tuition fee of either qualification: CUA30320 Certificate III in Assistant Dance Teaching OR CUA40320 Certificate IV in Dance Teaching and Management.
Upon successful completion of this course, students will not only earn credit for the CUADTM311 unit (Assist with Dance Teaching) but also gain eligibility to progress to the Associate Level of Teaching. This next step requires an Elementary certificate in any genre and completion of the CUA40320 Certificate IV in Dance Teaching and Management.
